So, I'm going through, and some stuff (I have over 40GB of music!) I'm looking at going, WTF, where the hellfire did you come from?

Oh, some I can trace to bad influences, like Supernatural, on my music taste. Some I can't recall why or how they got added. So if I can't remember it, it must not be important.

I do the quick-listen test, and if it sparks a familiarity and/or "not bad" vibe, I put it in the "To Listen" (and evaluate later) playlist. If I listen to a snippet and it makes me go, "Bleh!" in the first 10 seconds, DELETED!

I have power.

Anyhoo, that's what I'm doing. Spring cleaning for the music collection.

In the meantime, NaNo continues. I've been going in fits and starts this year, partly because of work, partly because I lose my brain, partly because the story is partially stalled right now. We'll see what happens tonight during my lab shift, considering I have to drive my friend to the airport at 4:30 ACK EMMA WTF?

Come on, please finish synching before I have to leave for work...

Actually, I have been relatively busy lately, although that may slow down for the holidays. Then again, maybe not.

NaNo went incredibly well, if stressful. I was an organizer this year (Municipal Liaison), and my co-ML is a friend I work with at the library who is super gung-ho and organized and full of "Let's do this too!" Which is great, because enthusiasm is hard to come by for me, but it led to write ins every day of the week, two parties that went until two in the morning, counting, boxing, and hauling books for the bookdrive, as well as all kinds of mentoring stuff for the writers themselves.

It was more effort than I've put into anything in a long time. Exhausting, but rewarding, really.

New music rec: S. J. Tucker. Though I wouldn't recommend her for everyone, she does good pagan folk, with influences from other genres. I only own one of her albums so far, Sirens, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it. My favorites are "The Drowning" and "Go Away Godboy" and "Lady Vagabond". Great rhythm.

I'm a little troubled that she seems to think "gypsy" means something that it doesn't. She keeps using it in the romanticized, stereotypical, and inaccurate way, and I dislike that. But that's a common thing, and not all that bothersome on the whole.

As a reward for myself finishing NaNo with over 70K (eek!), I bought myself a legit copy of Guild Wars. I've been having fun on it, when my internet connection is fast enough for it. I try not to spend too long on it, and a few quests have repeatedly kicked my ass which piss me off and make me want to get off the computer. So I guess it's a good thing?

Anyway, I'm going to go see if I can finish the quest I started yesterday.

I did it! *spazzes out* Oh my gods, you guys, for the first time I did it! I won NaNo!

Here's proof:

Ha! Only the winners get that!

...Okay, I got that out of my system.

And now let's all root for Erin, 'cause she still has to finish, cause she worked three+ times as many hours in the last three days as I have...

She can totally do it! Go Erin! *waves NaNo flag*

I hit 44,000 words. This makes me very happy.

I haven't written anything yet today. That doesn't.

I have tomorrow off, though, so I can hopefully bang out some portion of the remaining 6k today and then do the rest tomorrow.

Um, lessee...

I totally have to remember to charge my camera batteries. Because I need to take movies of Nefret playing like whoa, because she is hilarious.

Oh, speaking of hilarious cats, I recently was linked to this (by I think [livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy though I could be wrong. It is adorkable and awesome.

Several of the follow-ups are amusing as well. I just love this video; it's creative, it's funny, it's got cats, and a cute guy. What more can you really ask for?

...Yeah, I got nothing.

I broke 30,000 words! I'm very happy. If I don't finish NaNo this year (which I'm still going to try to do), I'm at least making progress with how much I'm doing every year.

I moved my desk. I switched it so it was against the wall. I have to put up a mirror so I can see my TV, but I probably should've done that in the first place.

Okay, this is going to sound weird, even for me. But I swear I issued a library card to one of the fey folk yesterday. I don't know, but this kid just looked so elfish: his features were all pointy: pointy chin, pointy ears, even his hair was spiked. He was a couple inches shorter than me, too. It was like staring at the model for a cover of a book. I just couldn't help thinking that he was from Underhill and came to our side of the hill to learn about humans (gods know why...), and so he decided to go to the library like any sensible magical being.

...My head is a strange place. But seriously, this kid looked so. much. like an elf. It was just bizarre.

..."kid". Jeez, he was 20. Why do I do that?

Um...yeah. I've been all productive and shit the last couple of days. I got the dishes done before 10:00 yesterday, and I'm chipping away at the mess in my room. Which reminds me, I have to get a whole bunch of the stuffed animals out of my closet to donate them. I don't know if they should go to Crossroads Safehouse or to just the Salvation Army or what... Hmm.

In "today".

I had a good day. Posted a few things to get rid of on Craigslist. Worked, did some light shopping, came home, did twenty minutes on the bike, ate dinner, and then came downstairs to write. I also played with Nefret in there, because she loves it when I fish for kitties.

And while writing, I did this:

Yay! I'm less than four hundred words shy of breaking 30,000, which was basically my goal for this year. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled if I manage to finish. But I'm already thrilled that I beat my word count from last year.

Now, to go update my word count, take care of the kitties and go to bed...

*yawn* Oy!

So. I'm tired now, and it's not quite 8 o'clock at night. This is sad...

I did stuff today, though!

Yesterday was mom's birthday, and one of the things she wanted was "an army of people to help me clean out my house."

Well, I couldn't get an army, but I did rope Erin and Christina (and she roped her husband) into helping. Erin's day was today, and she helped me haul two cars full of stuff to giveaway and recycling. Whoo! Mom was so very happy. We got rid of a lot of stuff we totally didn't need, weren't using, and was just taking up space. It felt very good.

Except now I'm all tired and shit.

So, I am seriously behind on NaNo. So I figure if I can do 3k words a day until the 30th, I'll make it. Or close to or over 3k. I would be fine with either of those options.

And actually, I'd be thrilled if I could just break 30k words. I hit 25k last year, so I'd like to at least beat last year's word count. That would be nice.

Okay, I'm going to try to use Write or Die to get some words written today, though at least I have a damn good reason for not writing up to now.

Hopefully I'll be able to post an edit with a good word count!

Edit @ 9:44 pm: Ha!

Okay, I broke my resolution almost immediately. Technically, I went four days without an update. So you'll get one now and one later today when it feels like tomorrow to me.

So, what's been happening the last three days? Not much. I actually didn't write at all for two of those days, and only started writing again on my NaNo when I found out about Write or Die. Which is awesome. Because of Write or Die I wrote 2768 words in an hour and fifteen minutes, which puts my word count at 7,547.

Despite not writing, I did get an actual plot now, for my NaNo. I mean a storyline, rather than a concept, which is what I had before. A concept is not a bad place to start, but if it has no where to go, what the hell was I gonna write? Now I have a place to go, I have background, I have more characters, and I'm semi-confident about my ability to finish it.

So that's something.

More later.

P.S. My sister was watching Hannah Montana. For several hours. I just ... there are no words. I wanted to take the remote from her and tell her it was okay, we could get her help...

NaNo Day 3

To-Do List:

~ Take Nefret to her 10:45 vet appointment, where she's probably going to have to get a shot. ...Ooh, she's not gonna like this one...
~ Do dishes
~ Write more on The NaNo
~ Go to work
~ Put dishes away

And somewhere in there I'm going to, like eat and shower and stuff....

I may swing by my favorite coffee place after the vet thing, I havn't decided... If I do that, I could bring in a copy of my resumem 'cause they should be hiring for their new branch, and I love their coffee.
mis_creation: (Mmmm...coffee...)
Hee! Nefret just started playing with one of the mouse toys!

So. Freaking. Cute.

I had thought she just didn't like toys that much, but maybe she'd just never experienced them before. Oops, I think she just bit her head in a rush under the desk... still playing though. I'll see if I can set up a video sometime.

Also, I've actually started my NaNo. It's all intro so far, and no title in sight, but still.
mis_creation: (Diana Tregard)
So I do manage to post something today.

~ I did finish Stiff: the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers and it was as awesome as I thought it would be. High recommended reading, even if some parts of it did make me want to gag.

~ Halloween party was fun last night. The caramel apple bars are fabulous and actually pretty easy, which is a big plus.

~ Nefret has been getting bitey at me for a while. I think she's just getting a little stir-crazy because she now knows what's outside of this room, and she really loves the cat tower out in the basement hallway. Oh well, I'm hoping to be able to let her out after her follow-up vet visit on Monday.

~ Daylight savings time tonight, whoo! Extra hours of sleep! ...Ooops, sorry Dee, didn't mean to rub it in. That sucks that they're not compensating you somehow...

~ Haven't written anything on my NaNo yet. I'm going to try to get some out by the time I have to crash, or I might try to overcompensate tomorrow. We'll see how that works out...

~ Voted on Halloween, in costume. That was actually really cool, and speedy. I was in and out in no time. Now I just have to wait impatiently for the results...

Okay, off to try to pound out some NaNo story! ...I don't even have a title yet...
mis_creation: (Mmmm...coffee...)
Ryan is right. There's no excuse for not posting.

So, I resolve to post, well, something every day. In my copious free time. Because I do have a lot of that, what with my job only having four-hour shifts, and no second job in sight yet.

Nefret update: she's got an Upper Respiratory Infection, so, basically, she has a Shelter Cold. So, I have to dose her with medicine twice a day, and keep her isolated from the other cats. Which is okay, except now she's been out of the room before, she's bound and determined to do so again.

I guess I lied about the book recs. I'll do those tomorrow.

So, I've decided to try NaNo again this year. I have a concept for a story right now, but no plot. I'm going to go over some of my old stories, see if I can't cobble together a plot from some of those. I just remembered this idea from, I think, junior-high, but I'm going to update it, and grow it up a bit. Most of my ideas from back then had potential, but I was a little too juvenile to do them justice.

Oh, and I got an invitation to go to a Halloween dinner party thing. I'm going to be bringing the dessert, and I'm not sure what to make. Since my work friends seem to be big on themes, it is, of course, Halloween themed. So, I've got a few choices:

1. Apple Brownies (apples are a traditional harvest/fall/divination-at-All-Saint's-Day thing)
2. Caramel Apple Bars (ditto)
3. Fudge with marshmallo topping and call it "Ectoplasmic Fudge" ... probably just 'cause I like saying "Ectoplasmic"...

Okay. I'm off to make more banana bread that mom can actually eat this time!

Really this time, book recs coming up tomorrow!
