I just...dear gods, just please read this. Yes, it's voting stuff, but just read it... I almost cried.
*****
I hate politics. I make no bones about it; I hate the constant mud-slinging, talking about not-so-much, the smears, the bullshit and the "I didn't do it" crap.
But those are the prices we pay for having the government system we have, which is better than anarchy. I don't romanticize anything; there are flaws, there always will be. Nothing in this world is perfect.
But the closest we can get to perfect is to have full representation, which means everyone who can must vote.
I have friends who I consider intelligent who do not vote. Full stop. They just don't; they see it as a waste of time, and they don't think they can make a difference. I don't know if that's more a reflection on their views of the country or their views of themselves: less than cogs in the machine, so much less that they don't even matter. I've tried to convince them to vote, just because I'm a firm believer in the "if you don't vote, don't complain" aspect of America, and I'm kind of sick of them bitching about stuff they didn't even try to change.
So please, everyone, go vote. I don't care if I don't agree with you, just go vote for what you think is best for this country. Or, as is so often the case, the lesser of two evils, because I know that's how a lot of people feel about politics.
At the very, very least, vote in local elections, 'cause most of that stuff will have a direct effect on you much sooner than the national stuff...
Almost makes me wish I'd amended my icon to "Chicks With Swords for Obama"... Oh well. Too late now.
*crosses fingers*

Oh yeah, that whole NaNo thing... Um, probably not a good sign that I'm already about 4k behind...
