Um...yeah. So I had to Heimlich my mom this morning. She choked on her vitamins. She's fine, but I'm freaking the fuck out.

And, to really show that my mother is kinda the queen of the inappropriate comment, as soon as she could breathe again she croaked, "Vitamins aren't that good for you."

If you'll excuse me, I have to go curl up in a fetal position for a few minutes...

You know the first thing that popped into my head when you wrote "Heimlich?" Eddie Izzard has a stand-up bit about the guy who came up with it. I can't remember which routine it was in, but it was funny.

Yeah trust me, I was both trying not to crack up at mom's line (hysterical laughter is a problem of mine in stress situations) and trying not to think, "I've invented a maneuver". Or "huta-huta-huta... lobster."

I tend to want to laugh at highly inappropriate moments. Another prime example: so, last week, a cop shot a 17year old six times when the teen went after the cop with a hammer. One of my co-workers wrote the story about it. Instead of mulling over the tragedy, that MC Hammer song, "Hammer Time" popped in my head.
