mis_creation: (Leaves and sunspot)
I really should watch what I put out in the universe. Asking for something to write about gave me more than I wanted.*

One of my mom's oldest friends, Katie, lives in Australia. Has for something like 25 years now. I think she saw me once when I was a baby, but I heard about her all my life. She and my mom go way back, to mom's college and post-college days working at the assembly line at Water Pik, and going out and drinking at night. Katie was there when my mom met my dad, so it's a good, old friendship.

Mom's friend has a daughter who is 15, Jac. A year and a half ago, we heard that Jac was sick, seriously sick. She had a really aggressive tumor in her lung, and they were moving to Brisbane to be live at the cancer treatment center.**

Jac went into remission several months ago, and got to go home.

Yesterday, we got word that Jac had relapsed and the doctors did not have much optimism. Katie is flying back to the US with Jac to see the family they have in the US.

Mom wants to see them either in San Diego or in Boston, but can't afford to, and I don't know how she would do if she did. Because just a few minutes ago, mom came to my door and asked for a hug. And she started crying. Mom said she is so grateful my sister and I aren't sick, about how lucky she and dad are that they survived their ordeals of just a few years ago. (*knocks wood*)

I don't normally do this, but if you believe in prayer/good vibes/blessings/whatever, please send them Jac and Katie's way. No one deserves this.

And everyone count their blessings. I find it really easy to bitch and moan about what is wrong in my life. So much harder to appreciate what is good while it's here.

*No, I don't actually think this is my fault, I'm not that ego-centric, but the timing and the whole situation blows...

**I often use this as an example of how good government health care can be, because Katie didn't need to worry about how she was going to pay for her daughter's cancer treatment. All she had to worry about was her daughter, which still sucks but at least money wasn't a factor.
