mis_creation: (What am I looking for?)

I guess I needed that bitch fest because I feel a lot better now. Weird.

It could also be that my music works again. All it took was two re-boots and unplugging and re-plugging in the external. Whew!

I am putting together a Hermes Memorial playlist/post, hopefully to go up over at LunaTunes if they pick the car theme this week.

I am also hoping to actually write the fannish thing I said I would write and not wuss out at the last second 'cause that would suck.

So, the cars I'm looking at. It's down to an '07 Ford Focus (no Found on Road Dead jokes please) and an '05 Kia Sportage (I think). I like them both equally, and I can find nothing wrong with either of them to make me not want them. They both drive well and have nothing obviously wrong with them (no weird noises, no weird smells, no hitches in the giddy-up). And both are newly-cleaned, so they're kind of shiny inside and out. And they're both blue. I did not do this on purpose, I swear, but I can't speak for my subconscious.

The Focus has MP3 CD capability, but both have CD players and working cigarette lighters so I can use my MP3 radio-adapter again. All good.

So now it'll come down to what I can afford. Well, really I can't afford either, but not having a car isn't an option if I want to continue to make money. If I lived in town I could probably forgo a car, even though it wouldn't be fun. There's buses and my own two feet. But I don't live in town, so se la vie.

Buying a car (even a Ford) is an exciting prospect! It's one of those major investments that is one more rung on that adult ladder. And I won't crack any Ford jokes. I will say, though, that my first car was a Ford Taurus and there was always something wrong with the damn thing, from issues with the power locks to other misc. problems. Towards the end of my driving days with that beast, it pulled so hard to the right that I had to wrestle the wheel just to stay pointed straight. But I could have gotten a lemon. Or it was because it was a Ford.

We got a ford focus last summer and we haven't had any problems with it (yet).

Riah! Love the icon!

What year is you guys' Focus?

I hope I can make it to Hiawatha this year. I'm checking out my financial situation...

Hermes was a Mercury Sable, which is almost the exact same car as a Ford Taurus. The only trouble I had with Hermes was stuff that I/other people/unforseen circumstances caused. I think you got a lemon, most likely with a crappy previous owner that drove the car into the ground and then turned around and sold it. ...if it was used. I assume because all my cars have been used...

It was the Family Car (and not technically just mine), so I don't remember if my parents got it new or used. I'm pretty sure it had more than 100,000 miles on by the time I took the wheel. Still, my older brother (the mechanic turned cop) has nothing good to say about the Ford brand. He says Chevrolet is the best.

I won't crack any jokes (other than Fix Or Repair Daily since I like that one), but think about it: there's a reason why those jokes and rumors exist. I know nothing of Kia, but I do know it's not built by a company that's going to the federal government just to stay afloat.

It's not the first couple years of owning a car you have to worry about - you'll probably get 60,000 miles out of any car you buy, no matter the maker. Especially with the warranty - and you'll still probably have one for a car that new. What lasts beyond that 60,000 mile mark is another matter entirely.

Some people swear by domestics - my family has been that way since I was born, despite a 50% failure rate. They're certainly cheaper and definitely look better than most imports. But just remember that people don't slander a company just for fun - there's a reason for all the anti-domestic talk out there.

I'm sorry, I just remembered that Ford is NOT going to the government for handouts. That's good on their part. But it doesn't change my point substantially.

All I'm going by is my own experience. With Hermes and with Blue, the Taurus I had before Hermes. Good cars, still solid that we got more out of than we thought we would. Which, given that they were considered old when we got them is pretty good.

My dad's truck, an F-250 or something like that, has 350,000+ miles on it, and the only reason he stopped driving it all the time is because of its gas mileage. He still drives it when he needs to haul the big trailer.

My mom's Explorer has never needed any major work done, except for body work from accidents. It's got over 200,000 miles on it.

I come from a Ford family because Fords have worked well for us. I can't speak for other people's experiences, but I have no reason to believe the Fix or Repair Daily jokes.

Sorry about your car troubles. I lost my Saturn to similar transmission issues a while back. Does very much suck.

But aha, you're going blue! My current baby is blue. It was the first time I've been able to actually choose the color of my car. *hearts*

Anyway, I'm really here to cheer you on in fannish endeavors. I've been lax lately due to family crisis after crisis, but I would still very much like to see your story. I'll finish mine if you finish yours!

Hermes (my old car) was blue as well.

I'm sorry about family crises! If you're online today and want to chat I'll be available.

I am making progress. I have a plot, which I didn't have for a month and a half, and I'm even inching along in adding, like, words to the fic.

I will try like mad to finish mine, I promise! It's not due for another five days so I'm hopeful! *knocks wood, crosses fingers, etc*
